September RAFA Meeting

It was a really fun meeting and afterwards an even more entertaining lunch!  It's hard these days to impress me with dyeing but two of the ladies definitely did!!  Caris showed a bunch of fabrics that she dyed using eco-dyeing with natural things like flowers and wood chips.  The pieces were all very subtle and so much like Caris herself!!  The following are just some of the pieces and I can't remember what she said about each one and was too busy looking to take any notes!!

A lot of what Caris showed were silk scarves.

The ones that are darker at one end were tightly wrapped and you can see the cord marks.

Caris caught the bug from Elaine Davis and found some old cyanotype fabric and tried the wet cyanotype and these were just a few of her results.  Of course, now I have added this to my wishlist.  I did some years ago but never did this style where you wet the treated fabric and get all this texture in the background.

Donna had the good fortune to take a class with Elin Noble at ProChem on Subtractions and Additions.  I have always wanted to take this class but unfortunately Elin isn't teaching anymore.  She was such a great and sharing teacher.

The following are some of the pieces she shared which I LOVED.

A lot of folding, clamping, dyeing, discharging and dyeing.  Lovely, lovely, lovely!

Jessie shared this piece which she had sold but which the woman who bought it gifted it back after having had it hanging for several years.

This is Sue's piece which will be hanging in the Global Murmurs exhibit which opens soon.  I really liked this piece from a picture she took here in Rochester.
