Quilters by the Sea January Meeting - Part 2

Our members have obviously been very busy this last month as there were a lot of quilts for show and tell!  

This was made as part of an exchange. As usual, I don't have the names of the people who made them but have tried to at least put their picture with the quilt!

This quilt and the next  one were done as a result of a class taught by one of our own!

This quilt and the next one were Neonatal quits.  They didn't display the rest of them but there was a pretty good pile!  I had my two in that pile.

This was made for Christmas!

I took this and the next picture off Facebook as I was in  line and couldn't get their pictures.  This was done for Habitat for Humanity and was just beautiful!

Quilters by the Sea January Meeting - Part 1

Our speaker this month was Katherine Carter who lives here in Wilmington.  She is a super high energy person who primarily makes memory quilts for other people.  Her Facebook page is www.facebook.com/Katsbags.  She obviously gets lots of customers as she is booked out a year in advance and makes about 100 quilts a year!!  Her business is called Kat's Out of the Bag!

A really fun part of the meeting was the showing of many of the Cape Fear River challenge quilts submitted by members.  The following are about half of them and you may remember my one of the sunset at Ft. Fisher which I posted before.  These were just stunning quilts and am constantly amazed that our relatively small guild has so many talented and creative art quilters!

 

Quilters By the Sea October Meeting

It was a great meeting on Tuesday morning.  We were supposed to have David Walker as our speaker but at the last minute, he got sick and had to cancel.  Our wonderful volunteers moved up our November program with little notice and we had a really fun time and I got to meet some new (to me) people which was great.  This is the beginning of our jellyfish.  We used Jacquard fabric scupting medium and draped our circles over baloons we blew up!  They dried in shape in less than an hour.

I am sorry I don't have the quilter's names except for a couple.  This was one of the quilts created as a result of Ani Hudson's class.  

I absoutely loved this one.

This was made by one of our newer members and newer quilters as a result of a half-square triangle class taught last year.  Very creative!  I tried to picture quilter with the quilts they made where I could.  Sometimes they hid behind the quilt!

It is hard to see but the grey areas are embroidered blocks obtained as part of an exchange in the embroiders group here in town.

I really liked this one as well.

Nancy made several like this one out of the panel fabric in the center!

Nancy also did this one which looks pretty difficult to me but Jenny said it was a quilt as you go.  The hexagons are all in one piece so not sure how this was done.

There were also 40 quilts donated this month to the Comfort Quilts.  I was just in the wrong position to photo these and they were moving pretty fast!

 

Quilters By the Sea January Meeting -- Linda Snow Presention!

We had a real treat yesterday with Linda Snow doing a program on the many many block exchanges she has participated in!!  There were so many beautiful quilts and lots of ideas for doing more scrap quilts.  This is the quilt that greeted us as we came in and was one of the latest.  Just gorgeous!

I am not including all of them in the post and she also showed baggies filled with leftover blocks she had as well!  I used my telephone camera instead of a real one so forgive the not quite as crisp  images!

She spoke a lot about the rules of the exchanges as what can go wrong!  I certainly am familiar with that having been on a few exchanges where there were workmanship and size issues!  It is fun to get to see all the different fabrics and interpretations though.

I realize I have these in reverse order of the presentation as this is one of her earlier exchanges.

We also had show and tell.  I believe this was Judy's made from strips she got at a retreat.

This one was beautiful on both front and back!  Quilter is shown but I don't have her name as usual!

This was another two sided quilt made with t-shirts and it was pretty spectacular.  I have a stash of tshirts that I will get to at some point.  This was the back.  I wasn't quick enough to get the front too!

This is one of two mystery quilts that were shown.  

Following the meeting, a few of stayed, were social and worked on some projects.  I managed to finish a couple of Farmer's Wife blocks but managed to short myself on pieces for two others so hopefully will get those done today!
